Formerly known as the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area, Ability Now Bay Area is a 501c(3) charitable organization offering adults with developmental and physical disabilities the most comprehensive and cutting-edge services available. Our unique programs include education, communication, computer literacy, vocational training, wellness, and community integration. We promote self-advocacy, independent living skills, and leisure skills, enhancing our participants' ability to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

Who We Are

For over 80 years, we have worked to educate and empower adults with disabilities and their families. Through advocacy, wellness, enrichment, and a variety of educational classes & resources, we facilitate each participant’s pursuit of self-directed objectives for their lives and place within their communities. Direct service staff provide individualized assistance and comprehensive personal care, ensuring that disability is never a barrier to full participation in our offerings. Our Programs & Services

Adult Education

Ability Now Bay Area offers a wide variety of adult learning classes designed to expand participants’ functional and academic skills. Classes are offered simultaneously through our “virtual classroom” and options change every 6 months to include new subjects.

Technology Center

The Laura Long Technology Center is equipped with 20 workstations with adaptive hardware and software of various types so a wide spectrum of cognitive and physical abilities can benefit from the classes.

Health & Wellness

The Wellness Program helps participants increase functionality and relieve chronic pain and musculoskeletal stiffness through the use of integrative health therapies such as adaptive yoga and movement therapy.

Community Integration

Spending time in the community through field trips and activities support our participants to develop and practice independent living skills, an essential element in helping people with disabilities live fulfilled and autonomous lives.

Small Business Development

The Small Business Development Center is a distinctive, cutting-edge program that guides would-be entrepreneurs with disabilities through the process of building and operating their own small businesses.

How Our Funding Is Used

Nearly 90% of our funds and 100% of all tax-deductable donations go directly to our programs.
