Our unique programs include education, communication, computer literacy, vocational training, wellness, and community integration. We promote self-advocacy, independent living skills, and leisure skills, which enhance our participants\u2019 ability to live more independent and fulfilled lives.<\/p>\n<h4>Summary<\/h4>\n<p>The Assistant Instructor will assist in the provision of an educational atmosphere where<br \/>\nparticipants have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and<br \/>\npsychological growth. They will assist the instructors in implementing learning activities in an<br \/>\ninstructional program that will result in participants achieving academic and personal success<br \/>\nfollowing established IPP goals and objectives.<\/p>\n<p><b>Job Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Required to learn, utilize, and stay up to date with all technology platforms, including<br \/>\nZoom, payroll systems, Storii Care, emails, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Set up program areas specific to instructional need as described in lesson plans, email<br \/>\ncommunications, or via oral instructions<\/li>\n<li>Take detailed notes for each participant during class instruction. Complete the data<br \/>\ntracking by the end of each working day and include objective notes<\/li>\n<li>Provide individual and group instruction following the instructor&#8217;s lesson plan, email<br \/>\ncommunications, or via oral instructions<\/li>\n<li>Implement learning activities specifically designed to help participants meet the<br \/>\nindividual objectives as described in their long-range Individual Program Plans<\/li>\n<li>Act as an advisor for assigned participants<\/li>\n<li>Track individual program objectives for all assigned participants and enter progress notes<br \/>\nin participant records to include how a participant worked on this and what help they<br \/>\nreceived<\/li>\n<li>Submit data collection, chart notes, and progress summary to ADC Supervisor for review<br \/>\nand to counselors by date assigned<\/li>\n<li>Attend scheduled staff training to develop and maintain knowledge and skills necessary<br \/>\nto effectively carry out job requirements<\/li>\n<li>Treat participants with respect and dignity. All interactions should be constructive and<br \/>\npositive<\/li>\n<li>Provide for and maintain the basic health and safety of participants<\/li>\n<li>When needed, assist program participants with personal needs (e.g. pushing wheelchairs,<br \/>\nproviding nutrition, assisting with personal care) affording privacy as appropriate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Classroom Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Class instruction begins at 9 am. Be in class on time<\/li>\n<li>Sit amongst the participants and assist them with answering questions, encourage<br \/>\nthem to get involved in the class discussion, and assist them with objectives.<br \/>\nWrite about how they worked in class, noting any areas of concern to address with<br \/>\nthe instructor<\/li>\n<li>Be proactive in doing what you see needs to be done without being asked<\/li>\n<li>Ask the instructor what needs to be done if it is not readily apparent<\/li>\n<li>No cell phone usage during class instruction<\/li>\n<li>Limit chatter with staff in the classroom. Staff are in the class to assist participants,<br \/>\nnot to talk amongst each other<\/li>\n<li>Inform other staff in class when you leave for any reason so they can take over in<br \/>\nyour absence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Job Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, you will be required to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Load and unload buses<\/li>\n<li>Assist in other departments as needed<\/li>\n<li>Assist with pushing participants to classes<\/li>\n<li>Be at work, be on time, and maintain assigned work schedules<\/li>\n<li>Comply with all Ability Now Bay Area policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee<br \/>\nHandbook<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<li>Inform other members of your teaching team when you will be out whenever possible via<br \/>\nemail so they can plan for your absence<\/li>\n<li>Check your email as often as possible to stay in communication with others on your team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Qualifications<\/h4>\n<p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and onsite. An equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and demonstrated competence may be considered as meeting these requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communication and Reading Comprehension<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as professional journals, governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and lesson plans. Ability to teach, train, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, participants, and the general public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reasoning Ability<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ability to define problems and collect data. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
