FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part Time, flexible schedule, Minimum commitment of 16 Hours/Wk through May of 2025
Starting Pay Range: $16.50/hr

Formerly known as the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area, Ability Now Bay Area (ANBA) offers adults with developmental and physical disabilities the most comprehensive and cutting-edge services available. Our unique programs include education, communication, computer literacy, vocational training, wellness, and community integration. We promote self-advocacy, independent living skills, and leisure skills, which enhance our participants’ ability to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

Position Summary

The Marketing and Development Intern will assist in the creation and implementation of marketing strategies and development activities to support the goals of Ability Now Bay Area. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand their skill set and gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and community outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing Support:

    • Assist in developing and implementing marketing campaigns across various platforms, including social media, email, and print.
    • Create and design content for social media, newsletters, and other promotional materials.
    • Help manage and update the organization’s website and blog with relevant content.
    • Analyze and report on the performance of marketing efforts, providing insights and recommendations.

Development Assistance:

    • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.
    • Help with grant research, writing, and reporting.
    • Assist in the preparation of donor communications, including thank-you letters and impact reports.
    • Maintain and update the donor database, ensuring accurate and timely records.

Community Engagement:

    • Engage with community members and stakeholders to promote awareness and support for our mission.
    • Assist in organizing and participating in community outreach events and activities.
    • Collaborate with team members to identify opportunities for new partnerships and collaborations.

Assist in other departments to ensure familiarity with day-to-day programming.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Experience with web development and the WordPress platform a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Passion for nonprofit work and commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Communication and Reading Comprehension

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to teach, train, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, participants, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills and Technology

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as interest, discounts, and percentages. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, the Windows operating system, and Adobe multimedia suite. Experience with or the desire to learn how to use additional data tracking software.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt to varied and changing circumstances.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Note: Any lifting of program participants always requires two people.

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
  • May be exposed to outdoor elements of heat, wind, moderate cold, and rain while assisting participants with transportation.
