Job Title: Direct Support Professional
Reports To: Operations Director / ADC Program & Curriculum Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Status: Regular full-time benefited position.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm with one 15-minute break and one 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Pay Rate: $20.50/hr

Summary

The Direct Support Professional assists with the instruction of program participants and the implementation of programming in the Adult Development Program by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists with individual and group instruction
  • Assist with data-tracking during classroom instruction in the absence of the Instructor or Assistant Instructor
  • Assists with set-up and clean-up of program areas specific to instructional needs
  • Assists in providing input for evaluation reports and individual goal plans for program participants
  • Assists program participants with personal care as needed; including, but not limited to, feeding, personal care, and positioning

Changes can occur in essential tasks due to changes in programs, such as those mandated by law, or as a condition to further funding by a grant sponsor or changes in state or federal law. Any change in essential tasks to be performed will be by written notice and will be an essential task or requirement only after such notice has been given.

Additional Job Requirements
Additionally, every staff member may be required to:

  • Load and unload buses.
  • Assist in the Kitchen and Lunch area when needed
  • Assist in other departments as needed
  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Back-up Kitchen Aide when needed

Classroom Expectations

  • Assist with the set-up and dismissal of program areas and provide participants with devices if needed. When putting away devices, please make sure the devices are plugged in (excluding Fridays)
  • Always be aware of surroundings and maintain the safety of participants by exercising line-of-sight control
  • Aides are to be spaced out and seated among the participants
  • Communicate with participants in the class to help keep participants involved and focused
  • Conversation with other staff is to be class related.
  • During class discussion please feel free to contribute.
  • Cell phones are not used during class
  • Inform the instructor before leaving for your break and once you return from break
  • Inform the instructor when you’re called out of class for any reason such as assisting with hygiene, assisting in different classes, bussing, etc.
  • Inform instructors of planned time off and when you are unavailable to assist in class during your scheduled time

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Completion of a high school degree or accepted equivalent; two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Physical demands for the Direct Support Professional position include:

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. – frequently
  • Ability to stand, stoop, and bend – frequently
  •  Ability to push non-mobile program participants in their wheelchair-frequently

Note: Any lifting, transferring, or positioning of program participants always requires two people.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud

Addendum

It is required that every employee be aware of, and responsible for, the safety of program participants, staff, volunteers and others under his/her supervision or in their work environment. Employees are required to immediately clear or report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions in their work environment.

Requirements for Employment

  • Submit to a current physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required
  • Provide a copy and maintain a current California driver’s license, submit a DMV clearance, and a copy of current insurance certificate for personnel file.
  • Maintain a current CPR certification.
  • Current fingerprint clearance (prints must be sent to the Department of Justice within four days of hire).
  • Sign a Form I-9 and provide all required documentation.
