Small Business Development Center Supervisor

Andre has been with Ability Now Bay Area since 1994. He directs staff and participants in Cornerstone, the micro-enterprise program.

In the program, participants learn how to:

  • Operate their small businesses, ship orders, perform accounting, and provide service.
  • Visit galleries and museums, promote their art, speak to curators, and attend receptions.
  • Service vending machines, stock shelves, count money, and sanitize surfaces.

He also advises participants in the Ability Write Now writing program, instructing how to:

  • Submit work to magazines, revise submissions, upload documents, and sign contracts.
  • Interview for journals like Aji Magazine and Wordgathering.
  • Publish in top journals like Sun Magazine and earn Best of the Net nominations.

Andre earned a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles. He won the 2022 Newfound Prose Prize for his chapbook, Hauntings. In 2012, the California State Legislature awarded him a Certificate of Recognition to honor his services to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
